Jess joined Creative People and Places project East Durham Creates in 2015 in a community engagement role and became Project Lead in 2020. EDC has engaged over 120,000 local people with culture and operated throughout lockdown thanks to it’s embedded place within a local charity East Durham Trust.

Jess was born in Hartlepool and has community engagement in her blood having volunteered throughout her teens on projects led by her mam, a development worker. These projects in some of the most deprived places in the Tees Valley showed the ways in which art can empower local people. Jess brought this passion to her own career and now champions equal access to art both within her role leading EDC and as part of Culture Durham who are currently leading a Countywide bid for City of Culture 2025.

Anna Ehnold-Danailov

Anna trained and worked as a theatre director, before establishing PiPA in 2015 together with co-founder and joint CEO Cassie Raine. Since then, PiPA has conducted key research into the challenges and needs of the parent and carer workforce, established the PiPA Best Practice Charter, and launched the Charter Programme, a tried and tested framework supporting performing arts organisations to attract and retain a more diverse workforce, inclusive of parents and carers.

Sarie Mairs Slee is the Head of the Salford Culture and Place Partnership, a cross-city partnership leading on Salford’s strategy for creativity, culture and placemaking. Sarie’s background spans academic teaching and research, creative practice and social entrepreneurship, engaging with the roles of culture/creativity in sustainable urban regeneration and physical performance practice in surprising and intermingling ways. As a values-based leader, Sarie sees collaboration as the key component to risk-ready, meaningful, and impactful work across culture and place: building mutually beneficial relationships, grounded in a parity of respect, with common desire to ‘do’ better.

Tal Feder

Tal Feder is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Sheffield. He received his PhD from the University of Haifa in a joint program with Humboldt University, Berlin. In 2020, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Cultural Affairs at Indiana University. His current research focuses on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on employment in cultural occupations and patterns of arts consumption. His research interests are cultural policy, sociology of art, and quantitative methods.

Oliver Mantell

As Director of Evidence & Insight at The Audience Agency, Oliver works to make resources available to cultural organisations to help them understand audiences and their profile, behaviours and attitudes.

Oliver’s previous roles (at TAA, freelance and at Audiences Yorkshire) have covered a wide range of audience research and consultancy, especially around segmentation, benchmarking and collaborative projects.

Karen Gray

Karen is a researcher with a particular interest in how to value arts, health and wellbeing work and in the effects on and for cultural participation of inequalities related to ageing and health. Her recent doctoral study explored the challenges of evaluating arts activities for people living with dementia. Alongside her work for the Centre for Cultural Value, she currently also holds research posts at the Universities of Bristol and Exeter and is a freelance evaluator.
